Two 7th grade students from North Middle School were recently recognized for their exceptional scores on the ACT as part of the Duke Talent Identification Program ("TIP").† The Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted youth.† In order to be eligible to participate in the Duke TIP, 7th grade students had to have scored in the 95th percentile or better on their state sponsored standardized tests. They are then invited to take the ACT, along with high school juniors and seniors, to see how these 7th grade students can perform on above grade level tests.††Daniel Byerly and Katelyn Scheffer both took the ACT in†February†and scored very well.† They†were both honored at the Duke TIP 2016 State Recognition Ceremony held at Belmont University on May 9th.† In order to qualify for state recognition, 7th grade students had to score better than 50% of the high school juniors and seniors who took the ACT in one or more subject area (score at least a 21 or better in any subject area).† Katelyn Scheffer has also been invited to Duke University to be recognized at the Grand Recognition Ceremony.† In order to be invited to the Grand Ceremony, 7th grade students had to score better than 90% of the high school juniors and seniors who took the ACT (score at least a composite score of 28, or at least a 27 in Science, a 28 in Math, a 29 in English, or a 30 in Reading).
