TN Ready Update
At a press conference on April 27, Commissioner McQueen announced that the state has terminated the assessment contract with Measurement Incorporated (MI) due to its inability to deliver on its commitment Tennessee teachers and students (press release here). The state awarded MI a contract in November 2014 to provide an online testing platform with a paper and pencil backup. Not only did MI fail to deliver a reliable online platform for students across the state, they have failed to print and ship paper tests by deadlines they have set, despite the fact that paper testing has always been listed as the back up medium in our contract.
As a result of MI’s failure to deliver testing materials to all schools with grades 3–8, we are suspending Part II of TNReady testing for grades 3–8 this year. However, because districts have already received all high school testing materials, high school testing will move forward as planned.

Our NMS Algebra students will still take their test this year.

Last Day of School

The last day of school for students is Friday, May 20.

We will dismiss at 11:00 with report cards being distributed at 10:00.

8th Grade Parent Message
Good afternoon, 8th grade parents.  As the end of the year approaches, I would like to take the opportunity to preview some of the end-of-year activities to expect over the coming weeks.  Now, I will be going over some of these dates and time very quickly, so rest assured that all of this information is on our school website for you to consult.  In addition, our 8th grade teachers will send specific event information home as necessary.  Of course, if you have additional question please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teachers.  Ok, get ready… here comes a breakdown of important 8th grade events:
  • All parents of students attending the Washington D.C. trip will need to attend our pre-trip meeting on Tuesday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m.  The trip itself will take place from Tuesday, May 10 through Friday, May 13.
  • On Monday, May 16, we will have our 8th grade Field Day.  On this day, students need to be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a towel and bottle of water.  We will be selling popsicles and other summer snacks throughout the day.  Students will be allowed to wear a hat.
  • Our 8th grade dance is on Tuesday, May 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.  More information about this fun event will be coming home from your child’s teacher shortly.
  • Wednesday, May 18 is a big day here at North Middle.  In the morning, students will have the opportunity to see our Drama Club’s newest production, followed by a Yearbook Party.  Then, beginning at 1:15 we will have our annual Faculty Versus Students Basketball Game.
  • On the afternoon of Thursday, May 19, students will rehearse for Class Night and watch their 8th grade dvd which includes all of their baby pictures.
  • Finally, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, we will celebrate our 8th grade class with our Class Night at First Baptist Church of Lenoir City.
And thus ends our list of 8th grade end of year events. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We sure will be sad to see this outstanding class of eighth graders leave our building.
5th Grade Parent Orientation
NMS will be hosting a parent night and registration for all incoming 5th graders on Monday, July 18 at 6:00pm. All 5th grade parents should try to attend in order to gain valuable information about the transition to middle school and the upcoming year and to register their students to begin in August. A make-up date will be held on Thursday, July 21 for any parents who cannot attend on the 18th. If you have any questions, please contact 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Allyson Matlock.
Safety Drill Thank You
Good evening parents, this is Matthew Tinker, principal at North Middle School.  I wanted to take a moment to contact you this evening to remind you that we had an emergency drill today where students were evacuated to Fort Loudoun Middle School.  I cannot brag enough about our NMS students and their awesome behavior today.  During this drill our students and staff performed amazingly and were quick to follow directions at all times.  People at the church, police department, and Fort Loudoun Middle School bragged repeatedly about how well our kids were behaved today.  I appreciate them, you, and all that you do for North Middle School.  Have a great night!
